Don't "Shake that ass"...unless you're prepared to "watch yourself!"

Last night Steph and I went to see The Trews play at AJs (sorry the "Ale House" which consists of repainting and putting a few sports posters up) and they fucking rocked my socks off.
I always meant to see them live, but just missed them or couldn't get enough people to go see them. I sorta saw them in the summer in Gananoque (20 min East of K-Town for those in the dark) at their summer festival; but they were behind a huge barricade and lost a lot of sound in the open summer air, and I wasn't paying 10$ to see an outdoor show that I could see for free just a few 100 feet in a different direction.

So for all intents and purposes this was my first (our first) Trews show. WOW. Its like they just hit the accelerator to full speed ahead and didn't take their foot off the gas until the end of the night. I never get the idea of seeing a band with one album only cause they won't have a ton of stuff to play, at least that most people will know...and thats not to say that if the crowd doesn't know it its bad, but it does help the energy levels if they do. The Trews, working with 2 albums worth of material is an almost perfect spot, cause they have around 20-25 recorded songs to choose from, hits and not, but also enough not to have to play everything off their recorded output. This way you can skip a few 'duds' play all the hits and convert some to the good album cuts in between great and good. It also leaves you something to play at the encore that ensures keeping people there who usually just stay for the 5 radio songs they know and then leave. I hate that guy. The one who knows only what they play for him on mainstream radio and has no desire to learn or even listen to the other stuff.

The best (or worst) example of that I have experienced was at the Hip's Across the Causeway Show when we had the combo of the burnouts who know the first 3 albums singles only, those who know the stuff from the big albums only, those who only know the stuff from Much Music videos (or Much MORE Music I should say, cause you'd never see the Hip on MM ever). Then you had the people who only knew the most current single and then the people who know none of it, along with people like me and the friends I was with who know like every song ever. I forget where I was going with this, but oh ya...I hate the people who just know the chorus to a few hits and thats it. Maybe I just think you owe more to the music than that? Anyhow another time another place...

The Trews kicked ass though. Thats all I have to say, great Great band. Canadian is bonus points, and they can rock a bar show til even the golden oldies are getting Jiggy wid it.
Which brings me to the title of my rant here...
Old people and ugly people should be forced to watch videos of themselves dancing like total and complete utter morons, especially when they inflict it upon my ocular cavities (which I very often felt like ripping out). I will grant that one or two of them seemed to be having the time of their lives shakin' a leg and tappin' a toe, but ABSOLUTELY NO MAN (GAY OR OTHERWISE) SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO AN ASS SHAKING SHIMMY DANCE!!!!
This is the gospel according to Gavin. THanks be to me. (You're welcome)

I also saw the funniest thing in the world that made me willing to sell my soul for a digitial camera for just one simple picture that would have been priceless.
Steve, this might even surpass your mullet hunting at the ACC...
Picture an even shorter, even fatter, even balder, even uglier (If you can) David Crosby but with Brown hair, Leafs sweatpants, and...here's the piéce de résistance...with a shirt of the band:
Sum
Thin
Ugly

I shit you not. This is supposed to be an ironic shirt? lol more like He'd just done a Dr. Phil and got in touch with the "real" him.
I may be cruel but it was the best laugh I've had in MONTHS!

2006 Rams...better?

Now that free agency season is upon us, it is that time of year when teams either shake it up or try and keep it exactly the same. In St. Louis its the former. Looks like we made some strides forward on depth, and D, but the offence not so much.
1) Scott Linehan as Head Coach,,,well Miami's Offensive Guru should be a welcome addition to the team, since it won't be a huge change from Martz's offence minded direction. Plus anyone who can coach Chris Chambers to such new heights with Everyone's favourite Gus Frerotte at pivot...well wow.
2)speaking of Frerotte...WTF.
3) I had a shit fit when the rams released Isaac Bruce but thanks to the new labour agreement they had the money to sign him HALLELUJAH! an original from LA days, even if he's near the end he's still worth the respect and leadership abilities.
4) I like the moves on D, La'Roi Glover, Will Witherspoon and Corey Chavous (steve I expect an honest assesment of how good he will be for us)
5) on the downside we lost Adam Archuleta by far the best player on the team last year.
ok well thats enough for now...
maybe some new developments will arise....
check you all later.

Checking in and Checking out

Profuse apologies to the 2-5 people who might read this (Steve and Jared in particular, a hearty sorry is in order)
It's nearly 6 weeks since the last entry...wow thats awful.
In the meantime:
Organized a fundraiser with Trailhead to save the place I grew up camping and well grew up in general. Raised over $16,000 for the cause and pushed the charity very close to reaching its goal.
Saw another Oscar nominated movie, actually my first time at the screening room, for Good Night and Good Luck.
Have to say, between Syriana & GNGL, my respect level for Clooney is at an all time high, and I actually look forward to his next project, provided the word "Oceans" doesn't appear in the title.
Haven't seen Capote, Brokeback, Crash, North Country or a bunch of others. I should, and usually I like to be relatively expert in the films up for big awards.
Went on 'vacation' to Toronto and had a very good time, saw close friends Steve and Sage, the latter who informed me he wants to start a vineyard. This from an accountant.
The former informing me that he wants to go back to school after only 6 months away. Well we know what school it WON'T be.
Sadly came back from vacation, and less than 24 hrs later was shocked to discover that Stephanie's mother had died very suddenly. It's all very deja-vu to me and unfortunately for me, but hopefully as a help to her, I've been down this road before.
With that in mind, comes a top five list, with requests for your contributions as well.

TOP 5 Songs I want at my "life memorial shindig" (Funeral just isn't my word)

No particular order:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Bob Dylan - Knockin' on Heaven's Door (duh, but I could take any 5 Dylan songs)
Johnny Cash - Long Black Veil (But I could do 5 Johnny Cash songs as well)
Pearl Jam - Man of the Hour
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

Ok well, not the most original list ever, but thats how it is. I think I'll probably amend that list to add some more tunes b/c I imagine I wouldn't be able to let it stand at only 5 songs.
Feel free to scoff at the list, but maybe I should have said the 5 first songs that really occur to me and that I wouldn't think were bad songs to check out to.
Any input is more than welcome.

Take Care, and don't forget to tell them you love them before its too late.
